today i finally bought the minis of opi's alice collection (!) and what's with the cattitude and funky dunkey. i took off my previous mani (china glaze towel boy toy, which chipped horribly in the two days i had it on), and put on three coats of absolutely alice, and i'm kind of underwhelmed. : ( i'm really hoping it'll be better with a top coat, but my top coat's gotten kind of thick and gloopy, so i can't really put on any tc until after i buy thinner at sally's tomorrow. so i guess i'll have to wait until tomorrow night to see how it works out, and then until tuesday to take pics of it.

in the mean time, here are links to swatches of everything i bought today!

i bought more polish today! i bought wet n wild black creme, which i'll use for stamping since my current black isn't nearly opaque enough, and i also scored a bottle of sally hansen hidden treasure! Read more...Collapse )

this is someone else's picture of hidden treasure over a black creme, along with a shot of just the bottle. it is aboslutely GORGEOUS over pretty much anything, but it seems to look particularly good over blacks, blues, and oranges. i tried it on my mum over zoya robyn and also over rimmel tequila sunsire, and it looked spectacular.

i also tried stamping a zebra print in black over zoya sienna, and it didn't look nearly as good as i'd hoped. so right now my nails are just sienna with just top coat on top, but sienna looks pretty fabulous all on its own. i think if i used an orange creme instead of something as shimmery as sienna, it would've turned out a lot better, so that may be my next mani.

and in case you're curious, i have zoya alegra on my toes right now, and i love it! it's a really great color, plus it's super sparkly!

i had a job interview monday at bath and body works for a sales lead position! i didn't even ask if they were hiring, i accidentally talked to the store manager briefly on thursday, and she actually asked me to apply! i think i did well on the interview, but she went on vacation monday evening and won't be back until this coming monday, so i have a whole week to worry, lol.

i decided that if i don't get the job, i'm going to apply at a local beauty school to be a nail tech. a couple people have told me to take the entire cosmotology program, instead of just the nail specialty program, but i'm not really sure if i want to do the whole thing. part of why i wanted to do the nail tech program is that it only takes two months (according to the website), and i feel like i'd be more successful at a shorter program. i guess we'll see!

and here is a picture of my nails! i had to wear something conservative for my interview, so that's why i have on pale pink, but then i decided i needed something more excited, so i stamped the back design on top. Read more...Collapse )

my phone died! D: last night around 10:30, i was in the midst of texting jerry when it rebooted on its own, and it just kept rebooting over and over again, and it kept doing that until the battery died. i took it to the verizon store before work, and he told me there was nothing they could do, and that both the greece ridge and williamsville stores had droids in sock. so i'm going to try to wake up early tomorrow so i can go get my new phone! thankfully google automatically backed up all my contacts to my google account, and they'll all be reimported when i sign into google on my phone, so all i have to worry about it my apps and all my settings. but at least i can get a new phone so quickly!

so I got a Droid phone today! Its pretty difficult getting used to the full keyboard, but its really good at figuring out what you meant to say and then fixing it. Which is good because the virtual keyboard is apparently super finicky. Overall I really like it so far. I only got of.earlier today so I'm still learning a lot of the features and apps and stuff. It seems to be really hot though, like it feels the same way my laptop does when the fan isn't running. So that kind of worries me. Its nice not.having to fix of to me and stuff.

Like I said, its pretty hard to type on here, especially since I only just got the phone, so I think I'm gonna go. I just wish that it supported flash so I could check the games I play. Hopefully they fix that soon!

so i bought my fabric today, and of course it wasn't any of the ones i posted last night, lol. it's similar to the one under the cut, but the background is darker purple and the flowers are a bit different. Read more...Collapse )

i really like the fabric, and i really like the pattern, but i'm kind of unsure if i like the pattern with that fabric. it's super cute but i dunnoooo. : ( at any rate, i plan on binding all the seams not covered by the lining with almost lime green bias tape (it nearly matches the flowers in the fabric), so the inside should look really classy i hope. i'm also going to use white lace hem tape on the bottom, since it'll probably be easier than a regular hem, and i hate doing hems on full skirts.

while i was at the store, i bought a new pattern that was PERFECT to recreate a dress i saw on marilyn monroe in a picture i found. the only alternation i'll need to make is on the gathered midriff, but there's a lining that isn't gathered, so i'll just use that lining piece pattern and cut one of the main fabric too. i also found fabric for it, which isn't a perfect match but it's close enough. of course the store i was at only had a yard and a half and i need 2-5/8 yards, but there's another store five minutes from my work, so i'll stop there tuesday before my shirt. here's the fabric in question, although it's definitely lighter irl. Read more...Collapse )

i'm considering making the halter version at some point too, maybe in the red polka dotted fabric they show on the envelope. all the quilter's cotton at joann's is on sale until the 20th, so i'm sure i'll end up buying polka dotted something before then, haha. between the muslins and linings and everything else, i bought nine yards today for these two patterns, plus another four yards for some basic gathered skirts i plan on making (one skirt will be small yellow gingham and the other one will be small light green and lime green stripes), so that's almost fifteen yards! i don't think i've ever in my life bought that much fabric all at once, haha.

i also got the zipper for that top i was working on, so i just have to install that and then hem it, and it'll be done! yay! i'll be sure to post pics when it's all put together finally. : )

so i picked out a new pattern to try (i know i haven't finished the last one but i'll get to that in a bit) and i can't decide on fabric! i plan on using view D but adding the sleeves from view B (like this). i'm gonna put swatches of all the possible fabrics under a cut, so if anyone wants to vote, feel free, but mostly i'm just putting them here so i can compare them side by side. Read more...Collapse )

i've been looking over these fabrics all night, and i still really can't decide! all the quilter's cotton is 30% off so i'm probably going to buy a LOT of fabric tomorrow so i can make a ton of skirts and maybe a couple dresses. hopefully i can get at least one fabric with a border print, those fabrics don't even need to be hemmed sometimes so making skirts out of them is super easy.

to update on that shirt i was making... i still need to put in the zipper but i haven't even bought it yet, so it's still unfinished. i'm going to buy the zipper tomorrow and i'll probably be able to finish it tomorrow too, and then i can start on my dresses! :D

so one of the sites i have in my google reader is a local news site, and tonight one of the stories was summarized with "the governor’s proposed budget includes a 31% pay hike for judges and it retroactive to 2005." ARE YOU KIDDING? i read the whole article and it amounts to $58 million! how about... they tell the judges to suck it up and then slash the proposed state school cuts from $114 million to $56 million. i mean it's ridiculous, the state has a deficit of almost $7.4 billion, and the judicial branch decided that this is the year they ought to propose a pay raise? they say that they haven't gotten a pay raise in ten years and that their pay rate is the second lowest in the entire country, but on average they make $125k every year. so... boohoo. paterson is trying to create a tax on sugared drinks, increase tax on cigarettes, close four prisons (thereby removing thousands of jobs), cut $1 billion from schools ($58 million from SUNY schools)... i mean, really? new york and especially western new york has historically had a shitty economy and a shitty job market, and the way to fix everything is to increase taxes and decrease jobs?

it's just so maddening. and obama actually personally asked paterson not to run again, presumably because he's doing such a bad job. it's like... people are leaving this area overall, businesses are either closing down or relocating elsewhere in the country, and he wants to tax the hell out of the suckers that are still left up here. awesome.

so i've got the whole top cut out and sewn together and the straps are all sewn on and everything, but when i tried to put the zipper in, i managed to put it in backwards! so i had to rip it out, but i think i'm going to buy an invisible zipper instead of a regular zipper, so i would've had to rip it out anyways. it looks really cute so far, although it's surprisingly short. and i'm only 5'2", so i'm not really sure who this pattern is supposed to fit. i might have to add a band to the bottom, although i'd rather not. maybe i'll just wear it with high waisted skirts? i dunno. i guess we'll see!
